Custom voices

Custom voices let you upload your own approved speech samples and reuse that voice across many projects.

When custom voices are useful

  • recurring narration
  • branded voiceovers
  • a founder or team voice used across many videos
  • channel consistency across multilingual publishing

File requirements

VoiceCheap currently accepts these audio formats for custom voice uploads:
  • aac
  • ac3
  • eac3
  • flac
  • m4a
  • x-m4a
  • mp2
  • mp3
  • ogg
  • wav
Other important requirements:
  • file size must not exceed 250 MB
  • sample quality matters more than sample quantity
  • noisy samples can give poor results
  • more than about 5 minutes of total audio usually adds little value

Permissions and safety

Only upload voices you have the right to use. Do not use protected voices such as:
  • celebrities
  • politicians
  • other people whose voice rights you do not have permission to use
Protected or disallowed voices can fail validation.

Best practice for sample quality

  • use clean recordings
  • avoid background music
  • avoid heavy room echo
  • keep the voice style consistent across the sample set
  • prefer one speaker only
